Keeping you updated on what’s happening in the neighborhood

I hope to use this email newsletter as a way to keep everyone updated on what’s happening in the neighborhood. I promise not to spam you all and would love feedback on what to include!

Short Film About the Uptown

I came across this short film about the Uptown that you can watch here. It’s both nostalgic, sad, and hopeful at the same time. In many ways the Uptown represents the heart of our neighborhood. I love that someone took the time to capture it in this way and I’m hopeful that it will return as an entertainment venue again.

A black and white photo of the interior of the Uptown theater. The curved large screen is in the back with the curtains pulled to one side. The foreground is an empty space where the chairs used to be. A young woman sits squatting on the floor in a contemplative stance.

Draft Resolution Supporting Tenants’ Rights and Rent Control in ANC 3CSupporting Tenants and Rent Control at next ANC 3C Meeting

As promised in my previous newsletter, here is a draft resolution supporting tenants’ rights and rent control in ANC 3C built on my campaign platform. This will be presented at the Planning, Housing, and Economic Development Meeting on Monday at 6:30pm. It’s last on the agenda so feel free to join the later half of the meeting for the discussion. Regardless, if you would like to help or submit ideas for edits and improvements, please send them to 3C05@anc.dc.gov or reply to this newsletter. I will also be working with Commissioners to update the resolution before a vote at our March 20th meeting. Thank you to those who have helped so far!

Congresswoman Norton's Town Hall with the National Park Service on March 15 at 6:00pm

I get a lot of questions about how to advocate for issues involving the Zoo and the Zoo loop trail. Here’s a chance for those interested. Congresswoman Norton will host representatives from the National Park Service to provide updates and respond to your questions, comments, and concerns about federal park lands and issues under their jurisdiction in Washington, DC. Representatives from the Smithsonian Zoo and the Department of Transportation will also be there to provide information and answer your questions related to the Zoo’s timed entry pass policy and the Zoo loop trail.

This week’s super constituent!

I cannot do my work without your help, so each newsletter I will celebrate a constituent who helped make our neighborhood better. Since the Cleveland Park Streetscapes and Drainage Project began Phase 2 along the service lane this week, many businesses scrambled to move their furniture and other decorations away to clear the path. However, Nanny O'Breins didn’t have a great place to store their stuff. Commissioner Pagats made the plea for help, and Bob and Jen Ward answered the call! The Sunday before construction, they made their backyard available to store all the furniture from Nanny’s. I want to applaud them for helping a business in their (literal) last hour of need. If you see them, please thank them, and please do frequent the businesses on the service lane!
