The Cleveland Park 3C05 Newsletter from Sauleh Siddiqui [April 22]
Welcome to my twenty-third Newsletter!
Keeping you updated on what’s happening in the neighborhood
I hope to use this email newsletter as a way to keep everyone updated on what’s happening in the neighborhood. I promise not to spam you all and would love feedback on what to include!
Happy Earth Day!
I had an absolute blast attending Eaton Elementary School’s Earth Day event a couple of weeks ago! The school put on such a great event where students were taking part in art, exploring topics of sustainability, and enjoying themselves while learning! Looking forward to bringing composting to the school! Mayor Bowser has proposed devastating cuts to Eaton, and our ANC argued against the cuts in our budget letter to the Mayor and Council.
Support the New Connecticut Avenue Garden Beds
Cleveland Park Promenade Gardeners is a group of neighbors dedicated to maintaining and improving the garden beds and planters recently installed on the east side of the Connecticut Avenue commercial corridor. To make a tax deductible contribution, to volunteer as a gardener, or to ask a question, please visit our website at https://www.cppromenadegardeners.club/.
Undesign the Redline Exhibit at the Library April 11- July 11 Cleveland Park Library
Undesign the Redline is an exhibit that explores the history of explicit race-based exclusion, specifically in upper Northwest DC. The exhibit helps us understand why inequities in housing and wealth persist and encourages us to ask how we can “undesign” these wrongs. Suitable for middle-school aged children and older. Check out the schedule of tours and special programs and learn more at undesigndc.org. Register here to receive announcements about upcoming events.
Endangered Animal Sculptures Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Saturday, April 27th, 11am-1pm at 3000 Connecticut Ave NW
Please join Cleveland Park Main Street, Woodley Park Main Street, Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, and our ANC in welcoming the Endangered Animal Sculptures to the Connecticut Avenue Corridor. Stroll between the Woodley and Cleveland Park Metro Stations to hear music and meet the Endangered Animal Artists. https://www.districtbridges.org/events/endangered-animals-ribbon-cutting-ceremony/
Thanking super constituents!
This week, I want to thank the Cleveland Park Promenade Gardeners. The District wanted to cover the Promenade plant areas in rubber. At the neighborhood’s request, it installed $30,000 of plantings instead. At the same time, it disclaimed all responsibility for maintaining these areas. Thus, while our new flower beds could help transform the commercial area, they would need support from Cleveland Park’s neighbors and friends to thrive. That’s where the Cleveland Park Promenade Gardeners have saved us. They are a group of committed residents, led very energetically by Liza Collery, who have spent their time, brainpower, and money to help our neighborhood. Please support them however you can.
