The Cleveland Park 3C05 Newsletter from Sauleh Siddiqui [September 20]
Welcome to my fourteenth Newsletter!
Keeping you updated on what’s happening in the neighborhood
I hope to use this email newsletter as a way to keep everyone updated on what’s happening in the neighborhood. I promise not to spam you all and would love feedback on what to include!
Tregaron Highlighted in Nationally-Distributed Article
Our very own Tregaron Conservancy was highlighted by The Cultural Landscape Foundation in an article that describes the great work of staff and volunteers for this gem in our community! It's reported in "News" at the bottom of the website home page, where you'll also find registration links (in the banner) for upcoming events. If you’re like me and frequent Tregaron, don’t forget to donate, even a little bit brings up total donation numbers that helps Tregaron.
Volunteer to help deliver groceries to families in need in Ward 3
Every week, volunteers deliver groceries from Food for All DC to 10 low-income households in Ward 3. These food-insecure neighbors include seniors, people with disabilities who are unable to work, low-income immigrants and refugees, working mothers and fathers with low wages, and people who have lost their jobs. There is a lot of need out there: Ward 3's food pantry, NW Community Food, has seen an upswing in people needing help with food and now serves 200-250 households each week. They also pick up and deliver food from Food for All DC to the Calvert Calvert, a 24-hour little free pantry in Woodley Park at 28th and Calvert Sts. NW.
Pickup is either on Thursday mornings (10:30 - 11:30 am) or on Friday mornings (8 - 11:30 am). If you can help with this, please email elisabraver@gmail.com
Cleveland Park Art All Night Saturday, September 30th
Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 30 from 5-10PM, for an evening to celebrate the vibrant local art & businesses in our quaint corner of the city. Sign up here for the event! I’ll be volunteering, and there’s some spots left for volunteers as well who want to help out!
Places to eat galore!
With the newly pedestrianized Cleveland Park Promenade, we are seeing some amazing places open in Cleveland Park. I’ve already filled out several Captain Cookie cards, had a wonderful night out at Little Black Bird, and cannot wait for Thai Love (at the old St. Arnold’s space), Buffalo and Bergen (at the old California Tortilla space), and Fresh Baguette (next to Orange Theory). Things are looking great for our neighborhood!
Advocate for road safety on Reno Rd.NW/34th St NW at Next Transportation Committee Meeting
Our ANC and community has been working for a long time for road safety on Reno Rd.NW/34th St NW. The road has schools, inadequate sidewalks, speeding drivers, and dangerous intersections. At our last transportation committee meeting, we discussed ideas to pursue this in a holistic way. We’ve started a document with ideas which you should feel free to add to or comment on, and please email me (3C05@anc.dc.gov) and/or Commissioner Nash (3C08@anc.dc.gov) with your comments as well. We’ll be finalizing this at our next transportation committee meeting with ideas that we can pursue.
Resources Page on ANC 3C Website
We have added a resources page on our ANC 3C website. You can find answers about tenants’ advocacy, reporting issues to the DC government, support for mental health services, and many more answers about how to engage with the ANC. If you have more resources you would like added, please email them to me!
Thanking my 311 constituents!
A lot of the work I do cannot happen without the support of you all who point out issues to me. The ones I appreciate this week are those who submit 311 requests to help our neighborhood be better. You all have requested trash cans, cleanup of playgrounds, rats and trash in our public space, and dangerous sidewalks all within the last week. While the city has its inefficiencies, reporting them is the first step to getting them resolved. Thank you, and please keep those 311s coming! It’s very easy to report anything online or via the mobile app.
